Austin firefighters battle grass fires along highways
Austin firefighters are working to put out several grass fires along area highways Friday afternoon.
Grass fires have been reported at Highway 183 and Burleson, MoPac and 45th Street, and 1700 South MoPac at Barton Creek Mall.
The Austin Fire Department says they have had six fires this week all caused by "improperly discarded smoking materials."
The department is reminding citizens to make sure their cigarettes are completely extinguished before throwing them away. If necessary, soak them in water.
