Hillside International Chapel and Truth Center, under the leadership of Bishop Dr. Barbara L. King, is celebrating 40 years of providing spiritual teachings and services to the Metro Atlanta Community with the Hillside Community Fun Fest 2011. This event will be held at the indoor and outdoor facilities of the campus at 2450 Cascade Road, SW, Atlanta, GA 30311. The festivities begin on Saturday, August 6th starting at 11am and Sunday, August 7th starting at 1pm. Admission is free. This community festival will attract Family and Friends from Hillside, neighboring churches, religious and civic organizations, and those living in the Metro Atlanta area. The Community Fun Fest will feature entertainment for the entire family, special presentations on health management and wellness, spirituality, and fitness, just to name a few. Those attending the event will enjoy live music and dancing, special exhibits for children with a dedicated play area, delicious varieties of food, and a marketplace of vendors with exciting and unique products and services to offer. The Hillside Community Fun Fest 2011 is the second in a series of activities presented in celebration of Hillside’s 40th anniversary. Bishop King, affectionately called Dr. Barbara by her members, began this non-denominational, ecumenical ministry in 1971 with twelve members in her living room. The Hillside complex covers nearly twelve acres with a growing congregation numbering more than 10,000. Hillside has a very visible and important role in the development of metropolitan Atlanta through its numerous programs and outreach projects. Continuing Hillside’s tradition of service, the 40th anniversary celebration began with the “40 Acts of Service” campaign where Hillside members were encouraged to go out and perform 40 Acts of service in the community.

Volunteers have already committed to work with Cascade House, a transitional shelter for women, the Atlanta Community Food Bank, as well as SWEEAC – Southwest Ecumenical Emergency Assistance Center. SWEEAC will also sponsor a clothing drive in conjunction with Hillside’s Community Fun Fest activities on both days.
