Car Stolen With 3 Sleeping Kids Inside, Police Say

BURLINGTON, N.C. -- Police are asking the public for help in finding a man who they said stole a car that had three sleeping children inside it early Sunday morning in Burlington.

Investigators said Alberto Perez Medina told police that Jamie Sosa, a passenger in his white Cadillac Escalade, drove off in the vehicle while Medina's three children were asleep inside it at about 4:50 a.m. Sunday.

Medina and mother of the children gave Sosa a ride to a home Sunday morning when he got into the driver's seat and drove away, Capt. Z. Smith with the Burlington Police Department said.

One of the children was able to exit the vehicle as Sosa was driving away, police said. The other two children, an 11-year-old girl and a 4-year-old boy, along with the Escalade, were dropped off at their home in the 1000 block of Mobile Park Road in Graham at about 11:45 a.m.

The requirements for an Amber Alert were not met in the incident, so an alert was not issued, according to the supervisor of the Center for Missing and Exploited Children of North Carolina.

Police were looking for Sosa, of Winston-Salem, who was described as a Hispanic man in his 30s.

Burlington police said they expected to charge Sosa with kidnapping once he was found.
