Coyotes Open 2011 Season at Air Force

Vermillion, SD after completing fall camp last week, the University of South Dakota football team will begin its 2011 schedule to challenge the Air Force on Saturday. The kickoff is scheduled for 1:00 p.m. CT at Falcon Stadium in Colorado Springs, Colo. In 2010, the Coyotes finished 4-7 overall and 1-3 in Great West Conference, while the Falcons were 9-4 and 5-3 in the Mountain West Conference. Air Force won the Bol d'independence with a 14-7 victory over Georgia Tech (Dec. 14).

Scouting the Falcons
The Falcons enter the 2011 season after a 9-4 record in 2010 and a mark of 5-3 in the Mountain West Conference. Air Force shot down Georgia Tech in the Independence Bowl Dec. 14 14-7. USAFA returns 14 entries and 58 letterwinners from the 2010 team, including senior quart Tim Jefferson and Asher Clark senior running back. In addition, the Falcons have a veteran defense with eight returning starters.

It all starts with Jefferson at quarterback.It is a four-year starter who won 21 games and is set to go Dee Dowis in the September quarter victories schools. Dowis has 22 victories. Jefferson is a dual threat QB, as he threw for 1,459 yards and 10 touchdowns as a junior.

Jefferson running the option offense as the Falcons averaged 306.5 yards last season with 61 representing Jefferson and 112 rushing yards per game through the air. He completed 51.6 percent of his passes.

It will seek to Jonathan Warzeka and Zack Kauth place on the ground and will be handed off at Clark averaged 79.3 yards last season. Veteran offensive guard AJWallerstein and Jeffrey Benson center and tackle Jason Kons open holes.

The Falcons finished second in the country in rushing a season ago.

Defensively, the Falcons are led by linebackers Brady Amack inside, Ken Lamendola and Jordan Waiwaiole. Waiwailoe led the team with 96 stops last season. The secondary is strong safety with Jon Davis and cornerback Anthony Wright. Wright has 10 career interceptions.

Up front, the Falcons have a number of players with experience, but not all-conference players between them. Nose guard Ryan Gardner returns.

Minnesota State High School Coaches Association Holds Clinic Open ...

The Minnesota State High School Soccer Coaches Association is holding their 21st annual soccer clinic on Friday, August 12th, at Hopkins High School, 7:30 AM until 4:00 PM.

The clinic has continues to get better every year with some of Minnesota’s best coaches and several national recognized coaches as well, all putting on sessions.

As always, the high school coaching clinic is open to everyone . Cost is $40.00 (after August 1st) or $60.00 at the door. Lunch is also included in the price.
