Qwest Become CenturyLink and What This Means For You
With the completion of its merger with CenturyLink on last month the Qwest brand in telecommunications is expected to disappear over the next several months. The combination of Qwest and CenturyLink will make up the third largest telecommunications provider in the United States, providing services in over 37 states. This is a monumental merger in telecommunications news, but what does it mean for you and your service?
What does this mean to you (customer)? In the short term, nothing. However as we move through 2011, Qwest customers can anticipate transition activity as operations are moved to CenturyLink. You can expect billing and customer service contact information to change as well as technical support. Locally PEAK has been assured that service and connectivity will continue without issues.
Long term plans for major projects are likely to be stalled until the merger settles into place. However expect new services and offerings to emerge as each company extends its competitive specialties. CenturyTel business customers will eventually see Qwest’s strong business products line become available in many CenturyTel service areas. Eventually, some larger CenturyTel-served cities may find Qwest’s more advanced DSL service arriving on the scene delivering faster speeds.
Although CenturyTel has hinted it may review whether it’s now large enough to operate its own wireless mobile division, for the near term, expect the partnership to resell Verizon Wireless service to continue.
Will you need to do anything as the merger continues?
CenturyLink reports nothing to date. It is business as usual for customers from both companies. If or when customers need to do anything, they will be notified well in advance of any changes taking place.
CenturyLink and Qwest have a strong web presence detailing the specifics of their merger to customers:
New name: The combined company will operate under the CenturyLink brand. However, it will take several months to fully implement the CenturyLink brand across all markets.
