Some students heading back to school
Beginning of Story ContentSchool has begun for hundreds of Catholic students in Calgary who are part of year-round programs.
Six schools have a shortened summer vacation in exchange for longer breaks during the school year.
Junior high students at St. Joseph school in northwest Calgary returned to school on Wednesday.
Students with "diverse needs," such as English as a second language students, benefit from shorter breaks, said principal Frank Durante.
"Not having that much time off is really good for those kids," he said.
Students in the Calgary Board of Education's year-round schools resume classes on Aug. 15.
