Livery Stables moves from antiques to events

The Livery Stables celebrated the move from an antiques mall to an event hall on Saturday with a variety of live music, free baked goods, book signings from local authors and information on new community programs.

It was all capped off with a huge close-out sale on books and other items.

Among the local authors on hand were celebrated historian and entrepreneur Lois Binkley and author Pat Fitzhugh known primarily for his expertise on the Bell Witch and other ghost stories.

Fitzhugh talked about his latest venture, “From Turkey Creek – A Memoir,” a complete break away from the world of the paranormal.

It’s a personal account of growing up on Turkey Creek in rural west Tennessee.

“It’s like Tom Sawyer and Huck Finn but set in the sixties,” he said.

Turkey Creek branches off from the Tennessee River, about 15 miles from Waverly, Tennessee.”

The Livery Stables is owned and operated by Tommy and Kelly Ellis.

Kelly Ellis said the items that used to be in the antique mall were either sold at auction or in booth spaces at other antique malls.

She said it took roughly three months to get every ready for the change of occupancy.

“It is not a renovation,” she said, adding that she hopes the events hall will promote more community interaction, providing a place to play, learn, grow and enjoy life more fully.

The staging area that for years housed and displayed antiques, keepsakes, memorabilia, and other curios will now serve as a staging or display area for a variety of classes, programs, community gatherings, games and live entertainment.

Classes and activities include martial arts, bingo, ping pong, board games, zumba, after school crafts and yoga.

Other programs include music and a meal, scrapbooking, walking club, sewing club, card making, dance, and there are even computer classes.

The Livery Stables is at 1104 Main St. in Pleasant View.

Hours of operation are 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday-Friday, 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Saturday and noon to 5 p.m. on Sunday. For more information, call 746-8992.
