GOP Repeal of Light Bulb Law Fails: Do You Agree?

There are legitimate reasons to use CFLs and LEDs, the chief among them being to save some energy, though at a higher cost up front in the purchase of the bulbs.

There are also legitimate reasons to use incandescent bulbs, for personal and professional reasons.

Professionally, photographers and designers have real concerns about the quality of light provided by CFLs and could really affect their business should traditional incandescents disappear and the new LEDs or newer incandescents not provide the same light.

Personally, the CFLs *still* take a few minutes to come on and don't provide enough light even when fully on. My apartment complex put them in the bathrooms, perhaps the worst place to put them in an apartment.

But the main reason Congress should lift this ban is that it should be my choice what type of light I use for my home. Americans are smart enough to decide for themselves whether they want to spend the money up front in the cost of the light bulb or spend it in negligible increased electricity consumption.

I support the ban. energy is finite as long as we depend on fossil fuels for our power. We made the switch to fluorescent bulbs long before they were mandatory. At first they seemed a bit dim, but now they come in brighter versions which give the same light a the old incandescent bulbs at lower wattage. When we switched to all fluorescent bulbs, we had a very noticable drop in our electric bill. Fo photography, the LED bulbs are very bright and should do very well.

No. I totally disagree. This is Marxism taken to the extreme. The government has absolutely no business or no right in telling us what kind of light bulbs we can and cannot use. That is an individual choice.

I made the conversion to CFLs a long time ago and I did not need the government to tell me to do so. If someone else cannot afford CFLs, it should be their choice.

This is just one more example of some useless, do-nothing, sit-their-big-fat-cans, overcompensated government bureaucrats making silly laws as a way of trying to convince us they should draw a huge salary from We the Taxpayers.

Fire them all immediately! Divert the saved money to rebuilding the Medicare and Social Security funds that they have been stealing for the past 50 years.

I'm way ahead of you tippie, I light and heat my house with burning whale fat, upholster my couch with baby snow seal hide, and use elephant tusks as back scratchers.
