Robbery suspect shot and killed by officer ID'd
DENVER - The suspected robber who was shot and killed on Aug. 6 by Denver Police was identified Monday morning as David Maestas, 31.
Maestas had at least 11 known aliases, according to Denver records released Monday morning. Maestas also had previous convictions of trespassing, drug possession, obstruction of a police officer, theft, assault with a weapon, illegal discharge of a weapon, as well as burglary convictions in 1996 and 2001.
According to the Denver Police Department, Saturday's deadly shooting was a home invasion near Lafayette Street and 30th Avenue.
Officers say a woman called 911 saying her home was broken into and her silver Jeep Liberty was stolen. Matt Murray with the Denver Police Department said the woman was found naked and bleeding from her face. She was treated at a local hospital but was later released.
Officers say the Jeep was equipped with a LoJack tracking device. Officers say they were able to contact a Colorado State Patrol helicopter in the air to help find the Jeep.
The Jeep was stopped a few blocks away at 22nd Avenue and Downing Street after it was hit by a police vehicle.
Investigators say two officers fired shots at Maestas, who was shot and killed.
